A popular tourist attraction in Thailand is hill tribe trekking. You trek into the mountains and forests which are inhabited by the hill tribes. There are many companies based in Chiang Mai that offer hill tribe trekking, but make sure the company you choose is registered with either the Professional Guide Association or the Jungle Club of Northern Thailand because these treks can be very dangerous.
If hiking is not your thing, another option is diving. Thailand has warm, clear waters and a vast variety of marine life and coral reefs to see. Dive shops are located all over the southern peninsula and diving is possible year round. If you are very big on diving, the best time to go is from October to April.
In addition to hiking and diving, rock climbing has also become a popular activity in Thailand. Southern Thailand is the most developed climbing area in Thailand and is also one of the most scenic locations to climb.
For people who do not like the outdoor type of activities, there other options. There is a 12 hour overnight train that goes from Bangkok to Chiang Mai that is relaxing and captivating. During the day there is an amazing view of landscape.
Another unique experience you can have in Thailand is taking cooking lessons. Thai-cooking is considered to be an art and the people are more than happy to share this with tourists.
